Melanie Benjamin fans

If you are a fan of Illinois author, Melanie Benjamin, she will be at Peoria Public in October! “What’s Your Story,” a celebration, to honor 135 years of Peoria Public Library, will be held on Monday, October 12 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Peoria Public Library Main Library at 107 N.E. Monroe in Peoria and will feature New York Times bestselling author Melanie Benjamin as well as many other events.

"Talk About A Good Book" Bookgroup has read 2 titles by Melanie--Alice I have Been and the Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb. Her most recent book was the Avaitor's Wife which was released in 2013.

Next meeting, January 30th

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! Since we don't meet in December, I've been catching up with some of the books I've been meaning to read. I finished the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins and The Help by Kathryn Stockett plus I had time to reread my favorite, Pride and Prejudice in ebook format on my ereader. What a great Christmas present to myself!

Our next book group meeting is January 30, 2012 at 6:30. We will be reading the Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb by one of our favorite authors, Melanie Benjamin. Copies are available in both regular and large print at the library. The discussion sheet is available for pick-up on online. See you in 2012!

Author Melanie Benjamin has new book!

Melanie Benjamin’s new book, the Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb, is here! Melanie is the author of Alice I have Been, the book our club read in April 2011. The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb centers on the real live Mercy Lavinia (Vinnie) Warren Bump who became famous as part of P.T. Barnum’s traveling shows. This novel examines Vinnie’s ambition to escape an ordinary life and her rise to international celebrity.
