Have audiobook, will travel
I just got back from a weekend car trip. A six hundred mile trip one day, a two day visit and a six hundred mile trip home, it was a great opportunity to read a good book. Yes, I am talking about audiobooks and I am a great fan. Nothing makes the miles fly by as much as a good book and when you are the driver, an audiobook is the only way you get to read. Now, when you are traveling with someone the selection of the book gets interesting. I find that what I like to read, a solitary activity, and what I like to listen to with someone, a group activity, is not the same thing. For example, I enjoy the Janet Evanovich books but I would not choose one for a family trip. Too many questions from the four-year-olds. Then there is the choice of narrators; how do you feel about accents? Depending on how easily you get into the flow of different dialects and accents, it may affect the way the listener will enjoy the audio book. Finding the right book for a family group to enjoy is well worth the effort however. I remember one long trip with two young children when we enjoyed Soup by Robert Peck. Hearing chuckles from both the front and back seats and from both the sixty year old and the preteen was, as they say, priceless. None of us could wait to turn the book back on when we got back into the car. If you think you would like to try an audio book, the library has several different formats and many titles and we would be happy to help you choose one to enjoy. People listen to audio books for many reasons but for me, have audio book, will travel.
