And Here Comes Summer

Here are the choices for the discussions for June, July, and August of 2009:

June: GLASS CASTLE: A MEMOIR by Jeannette Walls
Walls, a freelance writer and columnist for MSNBC, describes her highly eccentric and not so blissful childhood. Shocking, sad, and occasionally bitter, this gracefully written account speaks candidly, yet with surprising affection, about parents and about the strength of family ties--for both good and ill.

July HORSE HEAVEN by Jane Smiley
A highly readable novel about the world of horses and their breeders, trainers, owners, and those who love them. this book is filled with interesting characters, lots of humor and a bit of romance. It should be a great summer read.

Aug BOONE’S LICK by Larry McMurtry
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry's return to the kind of story that made him famous. He tells a delightfully engaging story as he follows the immediate travails but ultimate successes of a family brimming with strong, hard, and wild characters who reflect the strong, hard, and wild characters of the Old West in the last half of the nineteenth century.
